The Peoples Park was buzzing with activity as Active Trowbridge hosted its annual free festival.
Organizers hailed it a success as large crowds enjoyed the sports and activities on offer despite the threat of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Hayley Bell, head of leisure and information services at Trowbridge Town Council, said: ”The Active Festival is an annual free outdoor community sports event, showcasing sports and activities available in and around the Trowbridge community.
“To see the community come together again after the years of challenging times was overwhelming. With the increasing cost of living for all and the pressure this puts on families for Trowbridge Town Council to provide a free event for our community is vital.”
The event provides access to a variety of opportunities including Park Yoga, human table football, football challenges and a wide variety of sports provided by local clubs.
Trowbridge Mayor councillor Stephen Cooper showed great interest in the sporting demos, including the football target scoring competitions.
He said: “Active Trowbridge is a great free event that brings people together as a community.
“With the inclusion of the weather I was encouraged to see so many people come to the park and take an interest in the sports clubs’ activities.
“I enjoyed my discussions with these sporting groups and as a councilor am keen to encourage people to take part and use the facilities available including the basketball area if only if a group uses it as walking basketball. It’s essential to encourage the keep fit facilities “
Attracting a large following on Saturday was Park Yoga run by instructor Lucia Moat. She has been teaching yoga and mindfulness to adults, teenagers and children since 2017.
Lucia firmly believes that yoga should be accessible to everyone; and that the wellbeing of all the people who attend her classes is of the utmost importance. She says mental and emotional health is as important as physical health and wellbeing.
Emma Hibberd henceforth was showingcasing her Hoop camp project.
She said: “If you can walk you can hoop. We use weighted hoops which is much easier than the small plastic hoops. It doesn’t matter what shape you’re in Hoop Camp is a fab way to treat fitness as fun”.
Trowbridge Town Football Club, West Wilts Gymnastics, Hoop Camp, keep fit and martial arts clubs were among the 69 stalls and groups taking part.
