Arsenal have joined Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea contract rebel Mason Mount this summer.

Mount is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season as his current contract expires in the summer of 2024 and talks over a new deal have stalled.

The 24-year-old is closing in on 200 first-team appearances for his boyhood club and helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.

But his form has dropped off this season, with Mount scoring just three goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.

Despite Mount’s slight decline, a number of clubs have expressed interest in signing the England midfielder, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to Goal, Premier League leaders Arsenal have also entered the race for Mount as they make plans for the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his squad this summer ahead of Arsenal’s return to the Champions League and another possible Premier League title challenge.

The Gunners have made West Ham midfielder Declan Rice their top target but Mount – who has rejected offers for a new Chelsea deal – has also emerged as a target.

Chelsea are reluctant to sell Mount – especially to a direct rival – but desperately need to trim their squad this summer and make sales following Todd Boehly’s sensational £600m spending spree.

Despite Mount’s drop-off, Chelsea would be making a massive mistake by selling the Blues academy graduate, according to Paul Merson.

‘One of the players who’s supposed to be going is Mason Mount, he’s one of their best players. That can’t happen in my opinion,’ he told Sky Sports.

The Blues are in the bottom-half of the Premier League with seven games final and were knocked out of Europe earlier in the week by Real Madrid.

Frank Lampard’s side have the weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday night against west London rivals Brentford.
